What is a ‘Blue Christmas’?
Blue Christmas Hackleton – This Christmas gathering is suitable for anyone who is not enjoying the ‘festive season’. This may be due to a bereavement, dislike of the over-indulgence, depression, family separations, job loss, or a for a myriad of other reasons; in other words, for anyone who has ‘the blues’. The Blue Christmas service acknowledges people’s pain and focusses on “God with us”, ie the true meaning of the title “Emmanuel” which was given to Jesus at His birth. No matter how low we are feeling, how full of pain or despair, God is down in that space with us.

If you have ‘the blues’, we hope and pray you will come to share this time with us and others as we explore the hope God gives in the darkest times.  We make sure there are boxes of tissues available. If you can’t cry in church and before God – where can you cry?

How to get in!
If you’ve not been into the Chapel before, the entrance way can be a little intimidating. If there’s no-one outside greeting you, walk in through the open doorway. You will see two doors, use the right-hand one. (The left hand one goes up into a balcony). Walk straight ahead, through the door in front of you. Most people are surprised the first time they come in – the physical appearance is not what they expect and there is a very warm, welcoming atmosphere.

What should I wear?
In case you’re wondering what to wear – some people wear jeans and t-shirt, others come ‘smart/casual’. Probably, the only time men might wear a suit and tie, is Remembrance Day. Our Minister normally dresses smarter than a Coffee@Carey day, but not always. We hope this helps you feel at ease.

Are there refreshments?
Yes, after Blue Christmas service, you are very welcome to stay for tea, coffee, etc and mince pies, or other goodies.

Is there a cost involved?
If you would like to leave a financial gift for the running of the church, at the coffee bar  or in the  buildings donation box  that will be lovely but it’s entirely your choice. You will not be asked for money.
